Christin Franke Designer Portrait

Christin Franke runs an interdisciplinary Berlin-based design studio that focuses on print, identity and exhibition. She works collaboratively with institutions, individuals and small or big companies to fulfill their design needs. She also holds workshops at cultural institutions that are specially designed to meet the needs of young adults.
She worked with a range of institutions and organisations so her expertise is to create subtle and adequate structures for substancial content. And she knows that maximum empathy is the key to long-term love affairs when it comes to visual identity – whether you need to create a brand from scratch, including marketing and a beautiful and functional website or whether you are looking for a great experience.

»As I am driven by the beauty of intelligent structure and the strong energy of balance, I find inspiration everywhere. Typography is a particularly delicate science for me and I dedicate myself to its laws. My favorite contents are human concerns.«

What to expect

This section is aimed at companies and private individuals who wish to commission design services. What can you expect, in the processes as well as in business terms – apart from design tailored to your needs?

  • A first consultation free of charge, prefered in a personal conversation on site
  • If you are subsequently looking for a cooperation, now a detailed briefing is necessary in order to make an exact offer. If the offer corresponds to your requirements, a binding confirmation will be issued.
  • Now the design process “begins”. In fact, this process starts already during the calculation and the recording of the briefing, as ideas cannot be slowed down and immediately arise. Formally the design process starts with your confirmation. This process is divided into concept, concept presentation, drafting, change loops, digital preparation and creation of data material as well as optionally the supervision of the production. You can find all these individual steps in your offer.
  • It is determined beforehand how many designs are to be developed for selection and how many change requests are included. If you want to keep an offer at a reasonable price, work out a good briefing in advance and only agree on a single change loop, before which you make detailed considerations. Many change loops can be avoided by a well developed briefing. Change requests are not “corrections”, since a change in the design adapts itself to taste and cannot be corrected from incorrect to correct. The situation is different with typographical errors or author corrections. An author’s correction is the subsequent alteration of text material by the author, which causes additional work and thus a higher cost. So make sure you pass on final text material as soon as possible, if the project is text-based.
  • If the design has been created and you can foresee that you will use it, the extent to which this should be done is determined. This results in the accruing royalty payment. If you don’t use the design, there is no charge for rights.
  • If print media are created: It is determined beforehand whether the designer is to supervise the realisation of a print medium or whether the customer wishes to do so.

Business terms

You can expect

  • detailed and transparent written offers, which must be confirmed bindingly in order to initiate the assignment
  • comfortable staggered payment modalities, in parts at the beginning, in the middle and after completion of the project
  • Fee accounting in daily rates and hourly rates adapted to the individual scope of the project
  • subdivision of prices into design creation and design use. (If a design has been developed and is not used, you do not pay for the acquisition of the rights of use, but only the design itself. More precise and transparent remuneration can thus be guaranteed.)
  • package prices for extensive inquiries such as company branding incl. website.

Please keep in mind that as the client of a self-employed designer in Germany, you are obliged to pay 5 % of the net fee to the artist’s social insurance fund, even if the designer is not a member of this fund.
